I didn’t watch all of it. I’ll recap as best I can what I did. The beginning he talks about being sick for the last month. He’s glad it isn’t coronavirus. He also sounds sick. Talks about his first job at a froyo shop and never dealing with any bad customers.
Role plays a job interview with DeFranco. I fast forwarded, found that dull. Talks about how he wouldn’t wish that kind of drama on everyone and even now he thinks he should be over it but it still bothers him. Talks about how a girl he considered a friend tweeted something like “Wow. You never know what goes on behind the scenes” or something catty like that and how he get betrayed because he thought she was closer than anyone else and really knew him.
It wasn’t all that juicy. He also talked about tik tok, believes it’s better than what vine was. He thinks that the kids have a dark humor and that’s a good sign because they won’t be so offended. Talks about Charli something. A dancer on vine, who had to be like “I’m 15 and human” to get people to stop harassing her and how he thinks people don’t realize that influencers are just people too.And that’s about the time my kid got off the bus and I stopped watching. Not a great tldw, but a lot of the interview just wasn’t interesting to me.
I will say, I do feel for him. I’m sure the backlash from vitamingate was a bit traumatic emotionally. But I just am not his target audience and don’t really care about much of what he has to say. So charli is a girl who is 15 and does dances on tik tok, like every one else. She got famous kinda out of no where and people got mad at her getting 'the hype'I never really agreed with, if they bully you it's because they're jealous, but the amount of bullying this girl has gotten for being tik tok famous out of no where is insane. She's pretty, she can dance and she got famous and vocal people don't like thatSo people start bullying her SO MUCH, like at one point 10% of my front page was dedicated to making fun of her (I didn't even know who she was before that)Shes been tweeting recently about how she's a human and how about not everyone needs to point out that she might look a little bloated in one vidI really feel bad for her.
I googled her after. My kids a little young for tik tok and I have no interest in it so I didn’t know who she was.
She seems talented. The worst video I found was about her and her sister had leaked pics of them in swimsuits(oh god, the horror)and it just seemed gross, slut shamey, and made me so uncomfortable I couldn’t finish the video.I kind of hate how kids are growing up in the internet. My younger sister started high school last year and spent two weeks in a mental hospital after trying to kill herself when a some girls posted about how she was bi and was “r.tarded” (learning disability)all over Twitter. It was straight up cyber bullying. I always heard about cyber bullying when I was a teen, but it didn’t really happen because it hadn’t taken over our entire lives.
The most I did on the internet was play halo 3 online and get lectured about how Wikipedia wasn’t a valid source. It’s just a different world and I don’t think we’ve caught up enough to it to help these kids deal with the bullshit they’ll face. Okay I took one for the team and watched it.
I want to say that it is worth watching, at least the second half. The first half is mostly stupid garbage but the second half is incredibly thoughtful and introspective and JC actually makes a lot of good and mature points.
We're only halfway done lord cheesus, starting a new post. James says he doesn't like giving unsolicited advice because he doesn't want to seem like a douchecanoe (my words). James is making a new show. He filmed it and executive produced it. It's a competition to find the next big beauty star. He's talking about how new and unique this idea is. He says that being a beauty guru is 95% personality and like 5% skill, and he's right.
He says there's no guidebook to being an influencer (probably because it's a dumb job okay that's my opinion). He wants to save them from SCANDALS.
He said it's not focused on drama. He says that everyone who gets on the show is a winner because they will all gain KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE. I'm gonna pass on it. He calls it 'season 1' and hopes that it gets picked up for another season. Picked up by WHO? I'm so confused.
It'll be on his channel. Oh, Youtube sponsored it and is allowing him to offer it for free. I'm getting hella bored, I should be paid for this. Phillip asks him what is a piece of advice he'd give to a new youtuber.
James says to find something unique that other people aren't doing and do it. He says that so many people are just trying to copy famous people instead of forging their own path and they probably won't succeed. He says if you get one viral video or one famous moment and get complacent you'll drop off the radar. He says you have to have a marketing plan and a vision for the future. James talks about how funny people on TikTok can be. He says that people make really dark humor. Phillip thinks it's a coping mechanism for the difficulties in the world and James agrees.
James thinks it will help people grow up to have a bit of a thicker skin, and Phillip tries to find a way to phrase that that doesn't sound like he's whining about people being easily triggered, and fails. James thinks that TikTok is better than vines.
I still love me some vines though and you can pry that shit from my cold dead youtube channel. James says that someone already took the name jamescharles so he couldn't have it and had to use the name jamescharless, but he doesn't give a shit because it's not monetized so who cares. He says a lot of the shit he's made on there is pretty awful but he still loves it. He says that TikTok is a good place for people to express themselves and just not care and be who they are. They can just learn a stupid dance and film it without worrying about being good or the best.
He says that people whine that others on TikTok don't have talent and James says, who cares? They're having fun. He calls out people who are attacking and making fun of 15 year olds and other children on TikTok.
He's really angry about kids being bullied online. He says that he's very grateful for all the things his social media career has given him but the amount of pressure and hate you get isn't going to be worth it for most people, especially kids. He says it's not normal or natural for anyone to hear hundreds of thousands of opinions from all over the world about you and that the human brain isn't equipped for it. I'm not making jokes here because he's 100% right. It's a serious problem and has lead to suicides. He says that he sometimes feels self-conscio.
